It's late summer 1793, and the streets of Philadelphia are abuzz with mosquitoes and rumors of fever. Down near the docks, many have taken ill, and the fatalities are mounting. Now they include Polly, the serving girl at the Cook Coffeehouse. But fourteen-year-old Mattie Cook doesn't get a moment to mourn the passing of her childhood playmate. New customers have overrun her family's coffee shop, located far from the mosquito-infested river, and Mattie's concerns of fever are all but overshadowed by dreams of growing her family's small business into a thriving enterprise. But when the fever begins to strike closer to home, Mattie's struggle to build a new life must give way to a new fight-the fight to stay alive.

At first, the book was okay. I got bored of it and i completely forgot that i had to read for school so my mom bought this for me thinking it was an audiobook. Nope. I also dont like the topic of death. It makes me sad. I lost a lot of people in my family. I dont like the book.

I'm going into 8th grade and this is the book I chose to read for my summer reading project. I'll admit, at first the book was a little boring, but after I got into it I couldn't put it down. My mom even had to take the book away from me at night so I wouldn't stay up too late. (Although idk why, it's summer I can stay up as late as I want)

This book has a great amount of historical facts in it, as well the town it's set in. I really think that you should buy it. But if you don't like gory, historical content. Then this is not for you
