Summary

Distrust is no match for desire as a proper young miss and a self-professed rogue hunt down a murderer in this thrilling Disgraced Lords novel from the USA Today bestselling author of A Kiss of Lies and A Taste of Seduction.

Arend Aubury trusts no one besides his fellow Libertine Scholars. After his family escaped from France, penniless and persecuted, only the Scholars took him in. So when the stepdaughter of the villainess who has been plotting against them approaches Arend with allegations against their enemy, he suspects a double cross. Yet Isobel is a tantalizing prize, with lips as sweet as champagne and skin as creamy as Camembert. Is she a feast for the senses—or a bitter trap?

Lady Isobel Thompson dreams of marrying an honorable gentleman with a spotless reputation, a trait that Arend seems to lack completely. But Isobel believes that her stepmother is responsible for her father’s death, and only Arend has the skills to uncover the truth. As a cover, Arend suggests a fake betrothal—and soon Isobel finds herself forgetting that their courtship is a ploy. He’s so different from the man of her fantasies, and yet he’s so terribly handsome, so dangerously intoxicating—and all Isobel wants is more.

3.75* I love this series and the characters with in it. I've been waiting for Arend Aubury to get his HEA. He's been the one through out all the books that I doubted would find his one and only. Then Lady Isobel Thompson was thrown into his path and turned his lonely life upside down and started to pick away at all the walls he built up to keep people at arms length. The Libertarian Scholars are on the verge of finally finding the one that's been absent on destroying them. Arend needs Isobel's help to get close to the villainess but he will have to do the one thing he's sworn never to do again, trust a beautiful woman. Isobel needs Arend's help to prove her fathers death was not accidental but murder at the hands of her stepmother. The same woman Arend and his friends think is out to destroy them but it may already be to late, she always seems to be one step ahead of them. I highly recommend this series and it should be read in order. *Book Obsessed Chicks Review team

the story was confusing at times, and i read the other books in this series. anyone not familiar with the previous books would be totally lost and very frustrated. i was very disappointed in the story. it dragged in spots and kind of poorly written. i like this author too, so this was very sad.

Dark and brooding finds the light! This was a great ending to this series. I have enjoyed watching the Libertine Scholars fall one by one, and this was no different. Arend has always been a dark soul, and we finally find out why. Isobel's innocence and determination helped bring him to his knees. There were several moments in this story that brought tears to my eyes and touched me deeply. I highly recommend this story and series. I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and it is a Book Obsessed Chicks Star Review Team selection. This is my unsolicited review.

This is a rough book to read. I love this series but it is a dark story. It isn't really a stand alone either. Marissa and Isobel are in a coach and it rolls over and for Marissa it will change her life drastically. Victoria is horrid and tries to destroy the Libertine Scholars. This whole story is seeing if they can be ahead of the others. Everyone is untrustworthy of Isobel. Arend fled France and has a problem with women. Spoiler. Isobel believes in him and he keeps his distance. The Group run to Deal to follow Victoria to France. There are plenty of guns, dart guns and tunnels under the town. This story is full of changes and Spoilers. I see this is no longer the last book but two more books in the works. I like these dark stories. I believe you would like it too. It is a good but need to walk away book. Give this a chance. Don't let it get away! I have volunteered to read and review this book.

I was so excited to read this book. The Disgraced Lords is one of my very favorite series. I was looking forward to Arend's story. I saw him as the most complex of all of the Lords and I wasn't wrong. He is such a good soul but has had to do some terrible things just to survive. I loved the struggles and the victories that he encountered and overcame. Isobel is the perfect companion to the deeply intense Arend, they couldn't have been better for each other. They brought out the many sides to each other and enhanced them tenfold. The intrigue in this series will keep any reader on the edge of their seat.
