A lovestruck lady charms the duke of her dreams during an expedition on the high seas in this sexy, swashbuckling novel from USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans.

Alexander Sylvester Bracken, Duke of Bedford, has a mission: sail to the Mediterranean and track down Lady Hestia Cary’s missing father. It is a straightforward task, but for two rather vexing complications. First, the sea holds painful memories; second, for her own safety, Hestia is to accompany him. As Alex battles the demons of his past, he must also resist Hestia’s surprisingly skillful attempts at seduction. After all, Alex has sworn to leave her untouched, and he intends to honor that vow—until he can properly ask the Earl’s blessing.

Ever since His Grace rescued Hestia from the arms of a Turkish pirate six long years ago, her heart has belonged to Alex. So when he agrees to help find her father, Hestia is thrilled. Although Alex tries to hide it, there’s passion in his eyes—and a frisson of desire in the air—whenever they meet. On board ship, miles from home, Alex won’t be able to deny her any longer. But with scoundrels lying in wait, she may not live to tell the tale of her conquest.

  • 4 Stars!

I enjoyed reading this book. It was an entertaining & interesting read! This book is well written & kept me intrigued! I do wish that I had more background on the main characters-Hestia & Alex. I felt so bad for Alex! Not only was he forced to be a slave but he is addicted to opium & feels he isn't good enough for the one woman he cares for! Hestia is in love with Alex from the beginning & I didn't really understand how she could keep looking past everything Alex did to push her away! I wanted to smack Alex so bad for some of the things he was doing!! I didn't care for Hestia's father-he was a jerk! I was a bit surprised with some of the things that happen towards the end! I didn't see it coming at all!! This was a really good book, definitely worth reading! *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!*

Bronwen is one of my favorite authors. I love the way she writes. Although this is not her usual style. This one is very intense and a little dark. Alex and Hestia really go through so much you begin to wonder if they are gonna make it through. So many things keep happening to them that it had me on pins and needles. I didn't want to put the book down so I could see what was next.

3.5* Bronwen evans I have loved all of Bronwen Evans books that I've read and this one was good but I think I missed some of the connection between the characters. I would say this is a dark historical romance, second chance at love and addiction. Alexander Sylvester Bracken, the Duke of Bedford was held captive for two years beaten, tortured and controlled by opium. Nearly dead when rescued Alex survived by sheer will and the dream of revenge. Asked to rescue the daughter of his savor Alex is given the chance at revenge. Lady Hestia Cary was taken by the same man that kidnap Alex. Alex rescues Hestia but her captor escaped leaving Alex empty handed except for the beautiful Hestia who soon brings light into his tortured mind. Hestia's father swears Alex away from his daughter reminding him of his addiction and the damage to his soul and that he's no longer worthy of Hestia. Four years he's pushed Hestia away and avoided her at all cost, now he's been summoned to her house and asked to find her father. Which puts Alex right where he'd planned to be, on his way to revenge. Only his time he'll also have Hestia to protect from a merciless cousin and Alex himself. Hestia sees Alex as an honorable and good man and has loved him since the long boat ride home after her rescue. Hestia sees this as her chance to show Alex that shes the woman for him and Alex is out to show her just how wrong she is. If only the mind knew what the heart knows and wants. The beginning of this book sucked me right in with its drama but then it lost me until midway through the book. When Ms. Evans gets to the meat of the story the excitement renters the book and I was hooked again. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series.
  • Another Winning Regency Romance by Ms. Evans!

Alex and Hestia, another wonderful couple who found their happy ever after with this author’s storytelling. There was a topic in this story that you don’t often read about in Regency romances, that of addiction to opium (aka laudanum). The topic was addressed by the author with directness and dispatch right from the beginning of the story, and I admired that about the storytelling. Alex’s addiction stemmed from his capture and captivity by a piratical Turk which later made for a very rocky romance between Alex and Hestia…and a very interesting journey and adventure. Once started I just could not put it down.
  • Another great read!

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. I loved this book. The love story between Alex and Hestia is well written and keeps your attention. Also the storyline of their previous and later capture by the Turk pirate Murad adds great drama to this book. I have read several of Evans historical romance novels and they have all been wonderful books. I would highly recommend this one. I hope Stephen will be featured in his own story.
