Summary

Meet the Blackthorne men, each one as hot, fast, and smooth as the whisky that built the family fortune, and the yachts and race cars that bear their name. From proud Scottish stock, Blackthornes never lose. But, one by one, the seven sexy men in this family are about to risk everything when they fall for strong and beautiful women who test their mettle in life…and love.

Devlin – Book One

As the second Blackthorne son, Devlin usually likes to stay out of the family drama, but with his family suddenly falling apart, he has one way to bring them back together. He wants to win the Southern Maine Sailing Invitational, like his father and uncle before him. He has built the fastest boat, he has planned for every contingency, except one…a beautiful blonde determined to beat him and avenge a family betrayal.

Hannah Reid is tired of watching the Blackthornes win races on boats built by her dad, especially after the family patriarch fired her father. She has only one way to get revenge, win the race. Unfortunately, Devlin Blackthorne is standing in her way. She wants to hate him, but Devlin's love of the sea and brave, adventurous spirit mirrors her own, and she begins to realize that this sexy, charming man is hurting, too.

As they race to the finish, battling strong winds and family loyalty, Hannah and Devlin wonder if winning each other wouldn't be the greatest win of all…

Devlin is Book 1 of a 7 book multi-author series that encompasses the Blackthorne family. Awesome start to the series - can't wait to see how the stories unfold from one book to the next. Having said that; however, this can also be read as a stand alone book. Barbara Freethy never fails to deliver. When Devlin is confronted by Hannah over the firing of her father - a long-time dedicated employee at Boatworks - one of the divisions of Blackthorne empire that is under Devlin's control, the sparks fly between them. While Devlin may run that division, his father is the ultimate boss, and since he is the one who fired Hannah's dad for reasons only known between the two dads, it's a battle to get him reinstated in his job. Throw in a boat race that has always been crewed by Devlin and Hannah's dad on the current boat that they designed, and that's another monkey wrench added to the mix. Enter Harrah's dream to do the race with her dad on another boat. Who will the ultimate winners be? Loved this story about the pride of two families - Devlin and Hannah's - and how they both work to make things right, and find each other in the process.

Great start to a new series about the Blackthorne family - 7 books by 7 different authors, each about 1 member of the family. Barbara Freethy’s lead off about Devlin & Hannah is a wonderful story - 2 great characters that you’ll fall in love with. I generally enjoy these series, but I always love Freethy’s contributions...she’s a talented writer who seamlessly weaves bits of info about the upcoming characters into her story. There will be other great Blackthorne couples I’m sure, but Devlin & Hannah are special.

As book 1 of this series, I enjoyed some of the family history and dynamics that had to be laid out so that it can play out through the other books. There are so many interesting characters in this series, not just the main characters. Nana is a hoot. And she sees more than she lets on. Frank, as Hannah's father, will play a role in future books, I hope. I think the younger generation can learn from him and his mistakes. Although I am not a fan of Graham's, I am looking forward to seeing how his story with Claire plays out in the background of the additional stories. Will he or won't he redeem himself? It seems each of the Blackthorne men are driven and determined. It will take a strong woman to tame each of them. I'm looking forward to seeing who're able to tame the beasts.

ARC for honest review with no compensation Devlin by Barbara Freethy is book 1 in the new series, 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes by 7 fabulous authors and a great start to this series! Devlin and Hannah comes together after his father, Graham fires her father Frank, a long time employee and chief designer with only a few weeks before the reveal of their newest, fastest boat at the Southern Maine Sailing Invitational which Frank and Devlin has won for the past few years...for a personal matter between Devlin’s parents. This is only the tip of the iceberg... What happens next will keep you glued to your seat and reading faster to find out...if some things get resolved, if romance and love blooms, if relationships are repaired, breaking free of their parents shadows, irate employees and customers, learning more about the rest of my family and it dynamics just name a few...can’t wait for the next book in this series!!

The new multi author series is off to a fantastic start with Barbara Freethy’s “Devlin”. Barbara introduces the Blackthorne family and gives us just enough information about the characters to leave us wanting more while also telling an interesting tale of Devlin and his relationships with his family and the beautiful Hannah, daughter of a long time coworker. No spoilers here but you will be captivated by this intriguing and creative story.

Devlin begins a new series by seven talented authors. The first book by Barbara Freethy introduces the Blackthorne brothers and cousins. Patriarch Graham Blackthorne owns several businesses among them a whisky distillery and a boatyard in Maine, which Devlin runs. There’s a big race coming up that Devlin plans to win again, but now he is short a crew member since his father fired the boat’s designer who also was his crew. The designer’s daughter, Hannah, along with her dad plan to find another boat and enter the race hoping to get back at Blackthorne senior for dismissing a 30+ year employee who has been responsible for every winning Blackthorne sailboat. Can there really be a boat as good as what Hannah’s father designed and will Devlin find another experienced crew member? A better question might be can Devlin and Hannah ignore their attraction and actually compete against each other? Fans of Ms. Freethy know she is very adept at writing in multiple genres...sweet, edgy, thrilling, sensual. She also is able to bring her characters to life so that readers become invested in their situations. This was a good read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Highly recommend.

From the authors who brought you the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers series comes an all-new contemporary romance series, 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes! The 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes series kicks off with Devlin by Barbara Freethy. I will admit that I’ve been a fan of Barbara Freethy’s books for longer than I’ve been an active reviewer. I adored her Callaways series and my love for her stories just snowballed from there. Her stories are a mix of sweet with heat romance and romance books…sometimes with a bit of suspense thrown in. Devlin is somewhat the black sheep of the Blackthorne family. He’s not the workaholic that his siblings and cousins seem to be, but he’s still a hard worker. He’s a bit more aware of people, although he’s just as shocked by his mother’s declaration as all of the Blackthornes are. Hannah is in jeopardy of falling into her mother’s shadow where her career is concerned. Not quite sure where she sees her future, she rushes to her dad’s side when she feels he needs her the most. Will being a fling be enough for Hannah and Devlin, or will they finally break free of their parents’ shadows and find their own way…together? NICUnurse’s Rating: I kind of fell in love with these characters. I started the book with some preconceived notions on how I thought Hannah and Devlin would be as far as their personalities. What I found out, however, is that I was nowhere near correct! There was a depth to both characters I wasn’t expecting. But if I had really considered this author’s previous character development, I wouldn’t have been so pleasantly surprised. I also loved the small-town setting. I also felt that Ms. Freethy did an excellent job giving just enough backstory to the characters and the families that it didn’t seem like an information dump, rather a very important piece of the story. I give Devlin by Barbara Freethy 4.5 out of 5 stars! Now I’m even more anxious to see where this series takes me as each author has a unique style and voice.

This is a great “take me away” book—perfect for summer. I enjoyed the entire book. The interaction between Devlin and Hannah was great from them getting reacquainted to romance. As an older reader, I like that the storyline includes characters of all ages. I especially liked the grandmother, Fiona, with her wisdom and frankness. I also liked seeing the relationships between the two fathers and their children. The outcome of the race was a perfect ending to the book. Barbara did an outstanding job of starting the series off! She did an excellent job of introducing us to all of the other Blackthorns that will be featured in the upcoming books from the other authors. I’m looking forward to reading all of their stories.

The first in this newest series, which includes 7 different authors, each writing about a different Blackthorne. A major misstep, by an old friend, lands two people in an intense, new relationship. Past relationships, light steam and romance lead a race to the end of this first book. Good read. Add this to your TBR list.
