Summary

Amelia Willoughby has been engaged to the Duke of Wyndham for as long as she can remember. Literally. A mere six months old when the contracts were signed, she has spent the rest of her life waiting. And waiting. And waiting . . . for Thomas Cavendish, the oh-so-lofty duke, to finally get around to marrying her. But as she watches him from afar, she has a sneaking suspicion that he never thinks about her at all . . .

It's true. He doesn't. Thomas rather likes having a fiancée—all the better to keep the husband-hunters at bay—and he does intend to marry her . . . eventually. But just when he begins to realize that his bride might be something more than convenient, Thomas's world is rocked by the arrival of his long-lost cousin, who may or may not be the true Duke of Wyndham. And if Thomas is not the duke, then he's not engaged to Amelia. Which is the cruelest joke of all, because this arrogant and illustrious duke has made the mistake of falling in love . . . with his own fiancée!

I disagree with the previous rating that it was a slow and stupid storyline. You have to have a good grasp on regency era novels. I totally loved how she followed both cousins. The Duke then the loss of his title then falling in love with his fiancé. Then the restoration of a title later. So cute.

After reading The Lost Duke of Wyndham, I was interested in seeing what became of some of the characters. There was so much potential, but instead, this book is a retelling of Lost Duke - with entire sections copied, pasted with names pronouns corrected to make it from a different pov. It was frustrating and annoying to read the same book twice in two days. Very little new information was given until the last chapter or two and that was not worth reading what is essentially the same book I read yesterday. AGAIN. There wasn’t even a new climax, simply a new, trouble-free conclusion. I love books. I read hundreds every year. I reread them. This is the first time that I feel I wasted time and money. Pity, that. Except for this book, Ms Quinn is a favorite of mine. (No, I haven’t watched the Netflix series - I’m an old fan.)

The story would have been great if not because half of it was just repeat from the previous book. I wish the author would just have made one book out of the two stories, this would have made for a greater novel and allowed more opportunity to get to love these two characters more in depth. They both clearly needed the support of the storyline from the previous book in order to understand their behavior, so why not just make one bigger book out of the two?

Obviously the stories of the Lost Duke and this intersect quite a bit, but most of this book is a complete duplication of the Lost Duke

I loved the fact that this novel had some mystery to it. Also, it had fewer explicit scenes than some other novels, which I prefer. A great ending too. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.

I did not enjoy this book as much as other novels by JQ. It did not engage my interest much.

This book was a waste and I wish I could return it. The plot is boring. The characters are annoying and forgettable.
