Detective Sergeant Jim Cree is a Navajo Tribal Police is detective investigating a bizarre case . The wife of a local white tycoon asks Jim to investigate and recover a box of her husbands trinkets forcibly removed from a wall safe in their house. She accuses the box was stolen by a man named Tomas Charley who is the third generation in a family of leaders of a peyote cult “the people of darkness.” Assisting him in his investigation is a young white school teacher named Mary. Also there is a hired white assassin with a troubled past as well. What unfolds is an excellent read of dark secrets, homicides and stolen dead body. Non stop action and suspense. Enjoyed immensely!!

The recent Dark Wind Netflix series isn’t even a Cliff Notes approximation of Tony Hillerman’s wonderful series. Coming late to the books (thank you Netflix) I am joyfully gorging on the complete series from first to last.
