    This story takes place in Heartwood Lake . River first saw Sutton he didn’t know what to think .He just got there for Washington DC into protective custody by Crait Quantum Shied where Finneganis the point man with his family. His father was killed so they are looking into.Sutton mom is not a nice person , she gives Sutton grief. Her mother is moving to Heartwood lake . So Sutton needs a fake boyfriend. to impress her mother. She decided River is the right person, he doesn’t want to do it till he meets her mother.River has been a playboy and town flirt. But when with Sutton he so nice and fun. Sutton works for the library with no pay because she wanted to help the town . She a writer so she quite well in her finances.The story goes on with Sutton and a River romance or whatever it is. I really enjoyed reading this story.It has so much happening, you learn about his family and hers.Sutton just need to stand up to her mother.

    The chemistry is red hot between Sutton and River, despite their “fake” beginning. She needs him to pretend to be her fiancé, to get her Uber-critical mother off her back. He’s biding his time until he can leave Heartwood and get back to his life in the city. Neither expects feelings to develop. And pretty soon, neither can deny the attraction. While their story moved quickly, there was nothing rushed about their feelings. River definitely fell first, although some might disagree. But he was smitten before they entered this deal. Sutton is a bit buttoned up and serious, so it’s funny to watch River try to loosen her up a bit, as he gives off vibes that he’s the one with a stick shoved somewhere deep! Book two of the Heartwood Secret Billionaire series is just as great as the first, so be sure to pick that one up as well. While each can be read as a standalone, this reader thinks you’ll get more insight and enjoyment reading the books from the start. I can’t wait to see which “Kershaw” is next to fall in love!

    All the tropes. River Kershaw/Thorndale is a player who agreed to Sutton Fatima Asher’s plan of fake dating. She’s a thirty year old virgin librarian who works for free. He’s laying low, being a farm hand and waiter and player. He’s got a bad dad. She’s got an awful mother. Fake dating. Small town. Bad parents. A lot crammed in. But I liked River, even if he was the king of nameless one night stands (ick - better get tested). And who works for free? Recommend

    The angst is real in this secretive, steamy romance and is filled with sarcasm, wit, secrets and steam. Will River and Sutton get their HEA or does all of the secrets tear them apart. Loved it!!!
